Meet Novice Youth Elaina Garner….a 12 year old horse crazy girl who resides in Greensboro with her parents Diana and Kalief Joseph, her little brother Kalief and her brand new baby sister, Chief. She attends New Garden Friends High School where she’s a straight ‘A’ student, plays power forward and center on the Varsity basketball team and first base on the softball team.
She also enjoys painting with a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics and water colors. She creates fantastic pottery and writes poetry. She has participated in the 4-H artistic expression competition placing 5th in painting and 3rd in poetry. Elaina has played the violin since 4th grade, self-taught herself the piano and plays the Acoustic and Classical guitar.
Elaina has volunteered at the Greyhound rescue (she talked her grandma into "rescuing" Brooke), HorsePower, and the Assisted Living Center. Besides her horses she has 5 guinea pigs, 4 cats, 2 dogs, 2 calves, one steer and a heifer. She loves all animals and wants to be a veterinarian.
She enjoys spending time with her family and they take new and exciting trips every year. Some of her favorites include Yellowstone National Park, the wild horse sanctuary and the Badlands in South Dakota, Glacier Park in Montana and she especially loved her trip to New Mexico visiting Chaco Canyon and White Sands.
Her great grandfather Doug Gray, from Texas, was a trainer, AQHA Judge and Inspector and her grandmother Kathy Palma showed AQHA. And although she comes from a rich Quarter Horse heritage, her first AQHA Show on her new horse, “Docs Bo Bid” aka Spot, was the April 2011 “No Bling” show in Colfax. Spot is a 12 year old Sorrel gelding that is trained in halter, showmanship, hunter under saddle, equitation, horsemanship and western pleasure. They had a fantastic first year of showing, winning the NCQHA “No Bling” Rookie Youth of the year, high point Rookie Youth at the District III May and NCQHA August “No Bling” shows, High Point AQHA Youth and High Point English horse at the N.C. State Fair.
Besides AQHA competition, she was the State 4-H Little Britches Champion and went to Tunica, MS for the 4-H Southern Regionals making it to the top 30 out of 134 horses in the hunter under saddle. She loves Spot’s personality and willingness to please. They have developed a great bond already. She also shows a bay Quarter Horse mare, Bar Maid Hussy, in barrels and poles.
Elaina has set an ambitious show schedule for 2012 including all of the “No Bling” shows, the Region 10 Championship Show, the Novice Championship Show and the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
