The Catherine O. Stanley Memorial Award
Catherine was an NCQHA member for many years and president of the
North Carolina Amateur Quarter Horse Association when she was killed in a
riding accident near her home in December of 1995. Catherine was well known
for her encouragement of new riders and her enthusiasm for competing. She
loved hunt seat events. She was always willing to help organize and implement
programs to help promote the NC Amateur Quarter Horse Association. It is
hoped that Catherine's sense of sportsmanship and love for the sport of
showing horses will be continued with the awarding of this trophy on a yearly
basis.
A fund was established for a special award in memory of Catherine. We are
very grateful to Louisa Whitaker, Janet Crigler, Rusty Kimbrell, and Freddie
Rowe for monetary donations to assist with the establishment of this award.
The purpose of the award is to encourage participation and recognize success
in the following classes:
Amateur Hunter under Saddle
Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation
Amateur Hunter Hack
Amateur Working Hunter
Amateur Equitation over Fences
To qualify for this award, individuals must obtain at least 5 state points in a
minimum of three (3) of the above listed classes. The qualifying NCQHA
amateur horse and rider combination that receives the most state points for
the year (as calculated by the point's secretary) in the above listed classes
will receive a trophy created exclusively for the North Carolina Amateur
Quarter Horse Association.
This trophy will be presented at the annual yearend awards banquet. The
award winners will have their names inscribed on a plaque which is on
permanent display in a trophy case at the James Hunt Horse Complex at the
NC State Fairgrounds which accompanies a special bronze trophy created by
Lisa Perry.
